Dermal Fillers
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to provide volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore a more youthful appearance. There are several types of dermal fillers, with the most common being made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps maintain hydration and plumpness.
Types of Dermal Fillers
There are different types of dermal fillers available, each designed for specific uses and results. The most commonly used fillers include:
1. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: The most widely used type of filler, HA fillers are composed of a naturally occurring substance found in the skin. They are used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and hydrate the skin. Popular brands include:
Juvederm
Restylane
Belotero
2. Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers: These fillers are made from a mineral-like compound naturally found in bones. They are thicker than HA fillers and are typically used for deeper wrinkles and facial contouring. Radiesse is a well-known brand.
3. Poly-L-lactic Acid Fillers: A biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic substance that helps stimulate collagen production. Unlike other fillers, this type works over time to improve volume loss. Sculptra is the most common brand of this filler.
